2026 Adderall Shortage Info *Mods*: *feel free to delete, but I couldn't find a post within the past month that had good information about the current Adderall shortage (the one linked in the Automod comment is from 3 years ago).* Well fam, I guess we're doing this again. Looks like the Iran war (and/or other causes) are causing a national (USA) shortage of Adderall, specifically \*generic XR\* (and some shortages of generic IR as well). Called around to all my local CVS and Kroger pharmacies - they're all on back order for \*months\* and say they're not receiving \*any\* shipments of generic Adderall XR at all. Thankfully I was able to find a small business / non-chain pharmacy that still had my 30mg XR in stock but they say they won't have it in stock for long, and likely won't be getting any shipments for awhile either. Note that the \*brand name\* Adderall seems like it's in stock just fine (but without insurance you'll be paying $200+ for that). I just need to vent about picking up meds & being treated like an actual addict This will be long & im sorry So I live in a big city where we’ve been feeling the adderall shortages (both brand name & generic, instant & XR) for YEARS at this point. Especially in my specific area…the wait time to refill was always over a week bc they were always out of stock & it’s more densely populated, so I decided to start driving up to my parent’s area to pick up my meds every month. They live in the burbs where there are still wait times, but it’s only 1-2 days at worst (if at all). The only problem is it’s 30 miles from my apartment, or 13 from downtown where I work & there’s often traffic, so it’s still a time investment hahahaha but not as bad as waiting a full week Anyways, I met with my doctor yesterday for our check in & the office sent my script to my pharmacy this morning. As of today, it’s been 29 days since I picked up my last prescription…so my doctor told me I’d be able to pick up the new one today, no problem. State law allows pharmacists to fill ADHD meds after 28 days here, and today is day 29. So once I confirm the script has been received by the pharmacy & says “in progress” on the online portal, I drive my ass ONE HOUR to the pharmacy. I go to the counter, say my name, and the guy says “oh, you can’t pick it up until tomorrow.” I literally told him I drove an hour to get there bc the portal said they were working on it, so he gets the pharmacist. TELL ME WHY the pharmacist looks me dead in the eyes and says, “is there a reason you need it a day early??” IN A TONE THAT SOUNDS LIKE IM SOME KIND OF DRUG ADDICT?!? 😭 I told her that when I checked in with my doctor yesterday, she literally told me I could pick it up today. So in a little sassy tone, the pharmacist goes “okay, then let’s call your doctor and ask.” They filled my prescription, bc I wasn’t lying and my doctor knows me lol. And I guess I should be happy I’m getting it at all this month…but like why did she hassle me like that?!? I’m literally a busy corporate girly living her life in a congested city amongst shortages. They’ve made me wait for soooooo much longer than 1 day, and that’s fine…but the second I come to pick it up ONE DAY EARLY, suddenly I need a full reason & story as to why?!?!? I don’t want to be on medication either, maam, but here we are 🫠 Rant complete. How's the Adderall shortage treating y'all? For those of you prescribed Adderall or generic Adderall, or any other out-of-stock ADHD meds, how are you dealing with the shortage(s)? Are you doing alright? I'm struggling a bit. I was prescribed last summer, and I noticed I was getting more done but I didn't think I really felt much different. My pharmacy ran out in December, but I was recovering from surgery until the end of March so it wasn't a big deal. I was at home and on strict restrictions so I couldn't do anything anyhow. Switched pharmacies, got my scripts filled and went back to work first of April. Continued as usual. Now my new pharmacy is out of stock. I'm at work. I can not focus. I'm zoning out. I'm getting my work done, but its in spurts and sputters. I remember I had issues focusing before, I would start falling behind at work then power through a week's worth of paperwork in a day. But I don't remember it being this agonizingly painfully draining. If this is what it was like before diagnosis/meds, I have no idea how I got to where I am. Curious to see if this is a common feeling or how you guys are doing?

I don’t understand the adderall shortage This is definitely going to make me sound like a moron but I’m swear it’s 100% genuine. I’ve been on adderall since 2022. I’ve been hearing about the shortage since then, but have literally never had an issue getting meds. I take it daily so am picking up every 28 days like clockwork and have never even have them be late, and when I was going to be out of the country for a month last winter I had no trouble getting an early refill. The “worst” I’ve had is bottles that have pills from two or three different manufacturers. I’m sure it comes down to location, but I guess I don’t understand why, or even how a shortage can last for 4+ years logistically? There are only a handful of pharmaceutical companies in the US that produce it, so 1) why don’t they just increase production and 2) why wouldn’t a shortage affect the entire country? It’s not like suppliers don’t know the population of the places they’re sending the drugs to. . .it’s not like there’s a set amount that they send to every city and LA gets the same number of pills as Indianapolis. Fwiw, I’m in WI in a metro area of \~150K. I’d be interested to know which areas are most affected if folks are comfortable sharing where you live and whether/how badly you are/have been affected by the shortage.

Adderall Shortage Frustration Hey, so for the first time since I have been diagnosed with ADHD and prescribed adderall, which was 8 years ago, I have absolutely no access to my medication due to the shortage. 2020 and 2023 were bad, but I still managed to find a pharmacy that had some in stock within a day or two. Now, there isn't a pharmacy that has it within 40 miles of me. I called the pharmacy in my parent's hometown in another state because it's in the middle of nowhere and doesn't have many customers anyway, only to find out it's the same deal. I've tried to find alternative stimulants, but those too are on backorder. This is pretty much ruining my life, the details of which I'd rather not discuss because of how frankly humiliating and depressing it is, and I'm just not sure where to go from here. You do everything right, you follow all the rules, you go to therapy, and at the end of day all those 8 years of self-work goes down the drain because of manufacturing quotas and someone deciding they wanted to start another war in the Middle East. I just needed to vent here because I am so incredibly exhausted from all of this and just want access to my medication again.

Once again, the Adderall shortage has left me no other options but to ask reddit Has anyone been able to successfully fill an Adderall XR 20mg prescription anywhere near Austin? I am not picky, I am willing to drive hours. But every pharmacy I've called in Pflugerville and Georgetown don't have it. Please help!
