1 engagementsFinancial assistance eligibility calculations
I had a surgery in April at Texas Health Resources hospital - non profit. Med bill is about $20,000 excluding other 3rd parties hospitals and physicians involved.
I’m applying for their financial assistance program.
Based on my submitted income they categorized me as Tier 2 Medically Indigent - per their policy (income above 500% of Fed Poverty guidelines).
Per their policy, if medical bill is within 20% - 40% of annual income (idk if it’s Gross or Net), I’ll be eligible for the LEAST discount of 75%.
I don’t see anything else less than this so it FEELS like either 75% discount, or more, or nothing, not 50% or anything lower than 75%.
Based on my calculation I will not meet that requirement.
But they also look at my expenses and checking accounts. My claimed cash amounts on those accounts are about $20,000. And my claimed expenses are about $60,000 per year.
So,
\-what’s the real calculation here to determine my ability to pay. If the WRITTEN calculation determines BALANCE DUE / INCOME to be the rule, why even consider my expenses and assets? Do I still have hopes?
\-what can I do next?
\-what should I have done?
\-pay in full discount is only 25%, I don’t wanna settle for this.
\-what are my chances and consequences to let it go to collections?
