In 2015, 17-year-old Bailey Murrill from Texas suddenly became paralyzed from the waist down for 11 days due to a rare condition called conversion disorder, where the brain temporarily "shuts off" movement despite no physical injury. During her rehabilitation at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Bailey made an astonishing recovery: she stood up and walked again. A video captured the moment she surprised her nurse-who had cared for her through the ordeal-by walking into the hallway unannounced. The nurse gasped, cried out in gratitude, and embraced Bailey in tears, a raw display of the bond between caregiver and patient. The powerful scene quickly went viral worldwide, featured on major outlets like CBS and ABC, and inspired millions as a story of faith, resilience, and the emotional triumph of overcoming paralysis against all odds. Though it's April Fools' Day, this healthcare issue is no joke. The recent decision by Blue Cross Blue Shield to cut ties with UT Southwestern leaves many patients without their doctors, highlighting the real impact that insurance changes can have on people's lives. If you’re affected, it’s important to explore your options and stay informed! #doctor #healthcare #utsouthwestern #dallas

What counts as "peer-reviewed publication" - secondary essays I’m working on UT Southwestern MSTP’s secondaries, and one prompt asks: “What were your contributions to each peer-reviewed publication listed in your AMCAS application?” In my AMCAS Work/Activities section, I listed one published manuscript and one manuscript currently under revision. Since submitting AMCAS, my lab has also submitted another manuscript, but it is not listed in my application. For this prompt, should I discuss only the one published manuscript, the two manuscripts already listed on AMCAS, or would it be appropriate to include the newly submitted manuscript as well? Thanks!
